Oakville, Ontario - "Ward 6 must be seen to be more than an extension of the Mayor's Office. We have serious issues which require more than the "business as usual" that we have been getting from Town hall."
With that, C4CA President Doug MacKenzie announced his resignation as C4CA President and announced his candidacy today for Local and Regional Councilor for Ward 6.
"My role with C4CA introduced me to the people of Ward 6 as they expressed their concern for the proposed power plant to the south of their homes, schools and recreational areas. What I have heard over and over is a frustration with their local representation and an active encouragement for me to step forward which I am now doing." MacKenzie said.
Doug MacKenzie is a family man living in Oakville for over 41 years with wife Bettie, raised three sons, and a semi-retired international executive in the green energy business who has always been actively engaged in Oakville.
In addition to playing a leadership role in C4CA MacKenzie has been active in local affairs and trying to help make our community better from Campaign Chair for United Way of Oakville, United Way, St John Ambulance, OTMH Fundraising committee chair, house league and rep hockey and baseball, Junior Achievement locally and nationally.
MacKenzie said in particular, it has been his work against the power plant which really exposed him to the inner workings of the town and the need for some experienced balance to how things are done. "Protecting and advancing the quality of life we share, is the fundamental desire of the residents of Ward 6, with a realistic eye always on the financial well being of our Town."
"Our local government continues to spend too much, doesn't do enough to find efficiencies, property taxes continue to rise and there is no plan to create employment opportunities or grow the local economy. I believe that it is irresponsible and unfair to leave a legacy of debt to our children."
"As an open dialogue council we will achieve better and more sustainable results; everything from protecting our natural environment and green spaces to sound fiscal management and smarter spending." MacKenzie said.
MacKenzie said he would be making specific policy recommendations in the coming weeks once he has provided local residents with an opportunity to share their concerns and ideas. His web-site is: www.DougMackenzie.ca
