Issues of growth will affect residents of Ward 5 considerably. With massive development planned north of Dundas for residential units, hospital, and commercial purposes, residents of Ward 5 could be faced with numerous growth challenges. It will be imperative to have strong leadership on council to guide Oakville, specifically Ward 5, through these challenges. As well, keeping Oakville’s financial obligations within budget. The last thing young families need, or anybody needs for that matter, are tax increases to subsidize out of control growth. Being mindful of how tax dollars are spent is crucial for this next council. In addition, keeping the integrity of Ward 5 will be a high priority for Mark. Ward 5 enjoys beautiful parks and nature paths, safe and clean play areas for children, and safe neighborhoods for all residents. Oakville also enjoys a rich and vibrant arts community, lovely downtown area, and numerous sporting facilities. All this needs to be maintained and even enhanced, so that the quality of living in Oakville remains high. Transit also needs to be an issue in the upcoming election. Transit is an essential option for some in Oakville. Whether it is seniors making their way to a Doctor’s appointment, or a single parent travelling to work in order to provide for their family, transit plays a critical role in their lives. However if we are to justify the costs of running transit, we need to discuss such ideas as rapid transit lines which will not only link the north end of Oakville to the Go train system, but link other cities as well. We need to get more people riding transit. Obviously the more people riding transit, the more cost efficient it becomes. We need to engage automobile commuters to find out what will make them give up their automobile. Otherwise, the automobile will continue to be the only feasible option for commuters.
