Oakville, ON – Council will make a decision about the funding requested by Halton Healthcare Services from the town for the new Oakville hospital at its meeting on April 19. Mayor Burton announced today in a report to Council that the staff report regarding the decision will be available for public review on the town’s website by April 3, 2010.
“Council and I value public consultation and I want the public to have more time than normal for comment on the recommendation report,” said Mayor Burton. “We believe that hearing from the public helps us make better decision, and we welcome public delegations at the meetings on April 6 and 19. Councillors will have the benefit of hearing from the public at both meetings and speaking with their constituents before making their decision.”
The April 6 meeting will provide an opportunity for the public to respond to the report and present new information to Council. Members of the public wishing to make a delegation to Council can do so at the Council meeting on April 6 or April 19 by contacting the Town Clerk at 905-845-6601, extension 4235 before noon on the day of the meeting.
The report to Council for the April 6 meeting will provide responses to all the questions received during Council’s March meetings on the new hospital.
Halton Healthcare Services has requested a contribution of $200 million (+/- 15 per cent) from the town to complete its Local Share Plan to help fund the new Oakville hospital. Findings from a formal public consultation process were presented to Council on March 1. To learn more about the hospital funding decision, visit http://Oakville.ca/newhospital.htm
