Page Content: April 12, 2011: The Halton District School Board is proud to present the 8th Annual Halton Elementary Art Show, called Elements and Expressions, from Tuesday, April 19 until Thursday, April 21, 2011.
The popular event will once again showcase the artistic flare of Kindergarten to Grade 8 students, as all kinds of artwork will grace the gymnasium at the New Street Education Centre, located at 3250 New St. in Burlington. The mediums will include paintings, clay and paper sculptures, paper maché, crayons, pastels, ink, fabric, 2D and 3D pieces. The exhibit pieces are selected by the classroom and art teachers to highlight art curriculum expectations. The purpose of the art show is to showcase student artwork and to share it with peers to hopefully inspire and encourage others in their creative endeavours. Around 2,500 students are expected to visit the New Street Education Centre to tour the works of art.  Throughout the three-day exhibit, professional artists from the Burlington Art Centre will be demonstrating various art techniques such as wood and soap stone carving, pottery, weaving, spinning, photography, fine art and more. The artists will also interact with the students and give them hands-on opportunities to show them art has a place in their future.“Students who have a piece in the show rush around looking for it and stand by it with great pride – their pride is boosted even more when they are told by their peers what a great job they did,” says Ene-Mai Fortune, Oakwood Public School teacher and co-organizer of the Halton Elementary Art Show. “These moments are priceless and give the children a place to be special. Art gives them a place to shine.”Students’ artwork will be on display at the New Street Education Centre during the following times:? Tuesday, April 19: 9 a.m.-4 p.m.? Wednesday, April 20: 9 a.m.-8 p.m.? Thursday, April 21: 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.For additional information, contact:      Ene-Mai Fortune, Teacher, Oakwood Public School      Halton District School Board        (905) 845-0412, fortunee@hdsb.ca
