The YMCA of Oakville is now accepting applications from 16 and 17 year olds to participate in the Summer Work Student Exchange, a national youth exchange program for eligible teens who wish to strengthen their second official language skills and gain valuable work experience while on exchange to another province.
For six weeks in the summer, participants are ‘twinned’ with youth in another province where the second language (either French or English) predominates, and are hosted in each other’s homes. During these six weeks, youth are given a full time paid work placement in the not-for-profit sector and participate in activities and events that give them the opportunity to be engaged and contribute to their new surroundings.
Eligible teens can apply for a 2010 exchange opportunity by contacting Natalie Proracki at 289-218-8428 or by visiting www.summer-work.com. Candidates are selected on a first-come first-serve basis and the available spots for 2010 are filling quickly. Applications are due by May 14, 2009.
