There are three words that make me drool. They are “lobster grilled cheese”, and whoever was brilliant enough to think of putting the subtle, yet distinctive lobster together with the melty goodness of grilled cheese, was a genius. When I heard that The Gingerman Social Eatery on Kerr Street served up their own mouth-watering version of this, I knew I had to try it out, and I am happy to report that it lived up to my expectations.
The Gingerman Social Eatery is owned by Don Wilson and his wife, Tina Luciani. Don and Tina met in Vancouver, where they ran the successful Copper Tank Grill, but felt the lure to move to Oakville after they started their family. They opened the restaurant last year and have been developing a loyal clientele that go there for the friendly atmosphere, superb food and a great bar menu.
Don wants his guests to feel comfortable and enjoy themselves. “We offer quality food and a friendly, upscale environment. We want to make sure you leave satisfied and will be back”. Oakville resident Kent Paisley likes to visit the Gingerman with the family as well as for a beer after sailing on Lake Ontario. “The Mahi Mahi entree and the De Chook chicken sandwich are always two of my favourite meals at The Gingerman, and of course finishing off with the ‘Tinamisu’, Tina’s version of the creamy and authentic Italian dessert is always a great choice.” Kent’s wife Chris says the food and the atmosphere are what make the restaurant one of our go-to places.”
The Gingerman Social Eatery not only serves up some great food, but they pride themselves on having an extensive beverage menu that appeals to everyone. Whether you’re looking to try something new, like Oakville’s own TAG vodka mixed fresh squeezed grapefruit juice in ‘The Newman Special’. Beer lovers will rejoice at Don’s choices of brews on hand. Don prides himself in serving well known staples as well as few smaller labels that will quickly become favourites, such as great offerings from Canada’s first microbrewery, B.C.’s Granville Island Brewery, and the handcrafted and seasonal beers brewed in Toronto from Canadian Brewery of the Year winners, Mill Street.

The Rusty Pumpkin burger is one of the most popular picks, but don’t be fooled by the name. This big, juicy burger isn’t made from pumpkins at all, but from a mouth-watering combination of AAA ground beef, topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions, cheddar cheese and peppercorn gravy. With made from scratch soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers on the lunch menu, and a more intensive dinner selection that includes Chef Bradley Taylor’s innovative and eclectic recipes, including steaks, pastas and even a little Caribbean flair. The Gingerman also has a great menu selection that will please even the pickiest kid, including grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers, chicken fingers, and pasta, which they can wash down with a fun Shirley Temple.
Next time you’re looking for a great place to eat, be sure to try the Gingerman Social Eatery at 335 Kerr Street in Oakville. And for a special event or private meeting, ask about the dining room known as ‘The Vault’. The actual former bank vault has been turned into a dining room for up to ten people, and is equipped with its own 62 inch plasma television. Enjoy!
