Target Stores are Now Open

Canada has been waiting for a long time for Target stores to open north of the border. There were rumours swirling around a few years ago that proved to be unsubstantiated, but with the red bullseye target logo showing up on renovated retail spaces around Ontario, the dream has finally become a reality.

Target announced in 2011 that they were acquiring many of the Zellers retail locations and turning them into Target stores, and Canadians have been patiently waiting their opening ever since.

Last week we saw several Target locations open across Canada, including one in our area.

A favourite shopping destination for Americans and Canadians alike, Target offers a complete range of everyday items, such as housewares and groceries, as well as their own well-made labels and the most coveted collections of permanent and limited edition designer collaborations.

A few weeks ago, Target announced that they will be teaming up with Roots, the iconic Canadian fashion staple, who will be debuting their first partnership with Target, called The Roots Outfitters® line. Target will also be bringing some of their best-selling clothing labels for children, women and men across the border, including Circo®, Champion®, Cherokee®, Merona®, Mossimo® and Shaun White, as well as a capsule collection by mega-stylist Kate Young. The famed Target Home Collections from Nate Berkus and Giada De Laurentiis, and the beauty lines from Sonia Kashuk, as well as the exciting new ‘Be Delectable’ collection from Canada’s own Cake Beauty.

Archer Farms® and Market Pantry® are two of Target’s private label food lines that offer a great range of choices. Market Pantry® offers smart staples and snacks, while Archer Farms® specialties and updates on old favourites will become a new favourite in your home. With a wide range of grocery items available, Target is a one-stop shop for all of your everyday needs. Many of the Target locations will also have their own Starbucks in-store, perfect for grabbing a quick latte or cappuccino.

Tamar Nersesian, spokesperson for Target Canada filled us in on the company’s mandate and what to look forward to in the new stores. “We’re excited to bring our distinctive brand shopping experience to guests in Canada and to extend our legacy of giving in the communities in which we serve. Starting in March/April 2013, Target will open 124 stores in locations across Canada and when the doors open, guests can expect to find clean, clutter-free stores that are easy to navigate and have a broad assortment of unique, high-quality merchandise at exceptional value. At Target, we are committed to delivering our Expect More. Pay Less brand promise and this means making innovative, stylish products accessible to all.”

In Oakville, Target will be opening at Hopedale Mall at Third Line and Rebecca Street in the Summer of 2013. In Burlington, Target will be opening at both the Burlington Mall location and at the Millcroft Shopping Centre at Appleby Line and Upper Middle Road in the Spring. In Milton Target opened in the Milton Mall Shopping Centre on Ontario Street. Target will be opening in Mississauga at Square One in the Spring and at Westdale Mall at 1131 Dundas Street West in the Fall of 2013.
