Mayor Burton Addresses Last Week’s Major Snowstorm

Friday, February 15th, 2013

Salt trucks dispensed about 2,000 tonnes of salt across Oakville during last week’s snow storm

Town crews were ready for last Friday’s snowstorm challenge.

It’s been one week since the major snowstorm hit Oakville and the rest of Southern Ontario. As the snow continues to thaw, Mayor Rob Burton addressed the blizzard aftermath at a recent town council meeting.

“It takes a community to get things back to normal after such a large snowfall,” Mayor Rob Burton said. “I’d like to thank all the snow crews and town staff for their dedication to getting our town back up and running safely, and the residents of Oakville for their patience and their community spirit in helping neighbours and strangers alike.” (more…)

What’s New at Glen Eden?

Monday, January 21st, 2013

One of the things I like the most about the winter is skiing, and I love that any day of the week without having to make elaborate plans and without having to drive for hours, I can pack up my skis and my son can grab his snowboard and we can head up to Glen Eden and be on the slopes in half an hour. We are lucky to have such a great ski and snowboard centre located so close to the city, especially one that offers such a great variety for all levels of skiers and boarders, including those who have never hit the hills before. With world-class snow-making and grooming

This year, Glen Eden has added a few more exciting features that will make your season even more enjoyable. The fantastic new Visitor Centre is located at the west end of the parking lot, and is a convenient place to sign up or sign in for lessons, or pick up a lift ticket or season’s pass, and then hop on the tractor shuttle to get to the hill. Kinder Ski

Last year my son wanted to learn how to snowboard, so we took him up to Glen Eden for a couple of beginner lessons. This year, we have season passes, and go up there as often as possible for him to board and for my husband and me to ski. I love that it’s something we can do as a family, and that it’s just a short drive away.

Glen Eden Ski and Snowboard Centre is part of Conservation Halton, and is located in Milton on the side of the scenic Niagara Escarpment. With world-class snow-making and grooming and extensive onsite rental equipment available, Glen Eden is the perfect place to learn how to ski or snowboard, or enjoy the sports any time of the week without having to drive for hours to do so. The more experienced thrill-seekers will appreciate Glen Eden’s awesome Terrain Park, with over $70,000 invested in the past two years, and featuring a great assortment of rails, boxes and jumps.
