Oakville Santa Claus Parade Tomorrow

Oakville Santa Claus

Santa enjoying the parade in Downtown Oakville.

Children across town are excitedly making their Christmas wish lists and checking them twice because Santa Claus is coming to town tomorrow for Oakville’s 63rd annual Santa Claus Parade! The streets of Downtown and Kerr Village will be filled with holiday cheer as Oakville celebrates this year’s Parade theme “All I Want for Christmas.”

The Parade is a special treat for many parents and grandparents who take kids, bundled up, to perch along the streets of downtown and Kerr Village and await the arrival of St. Nick. They not only soak in some Christmas magic, but relive when they were there themselves — as eager children, believers in the jolly old elf and his world of wonders, wide-eyed and laden with their own wide wish list.

Oakville hosted the 2010 Santa Claus Parade on November 20th, and what a parade it was! Marching bands, clowns, costumed characters, as well as corporations, community groups and schools put together some outstanding entries this year that had the audience cheering to A ‘Reel” Christmas the Movies, this year’s Parade theme. A record number of spectators lined the streets of Downtown Oakville and Kerr Village. A special treat this year was to look up just before the Parade to see seven planes flying in Christmas Tree Formation.

Parade Sponsors were invited to participate as judges for the Parade and had a very difficult time this year because of the high quality of all of the entries.

2010 Santa Claus Parade

It was 36 days before Christmas and all through the Town, not a creature was stirring except the thousands in attendance at the 2010 Santa Claus Parade in Oakville!

This year’s Parade took place on Saturday, November 20th starting at 9:00am and began at Reynolds travelling along Lakeshore Road, then along Kerr Street, finishing at Kerr and Stewart.

The weather co-operated too and made it a great day.

The day started with the rumble of planes buzzing Downtown Oakville. What an airshow!

The Kinsmen Club of Oakville collected non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army. Everyone was encouraged to bring at least one non-perishable food item to the Parade. Cash donations were also accepted.

The Oakville Professional Fire Fighters were on hand to accept new, unwrapped toys from Parade goers.

The Fun Group of Families and Friends of Falgarwood celebrated their 16th year of selling noses for charity at the Parade. Dressed as clowns, the group sold their famous “red noses” on Parade Day for $2, with all proceeds this year supporting Wellspring-Halton.

Can’t wait to see what next year’s theme will be!

Remember Donations for Santa Claus Parade today

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

When Santa comes to Town today you can be sure that children of all ages will line the streets of Downtown and Kerr Village. This year’s theme is “A Reel Christmas at the Movies” and for years the Parade has been part of a story of giving back to our community.

Things to remember for Parade Day

  • The Parade is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and will travel: Reynolds, Lakeshore and Kerr streets, finishing at Kerr and Stewart. The parade will be over at approximately 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Lakeshore Road will be closed for the Parade. Free shuttle services will depart the Oakville GO station to Downtown Oakville at 8:00 a.m. The shuttle will operate to Downtown via Reynolds, Randall, George, Church, then returning to the GO station via the same routing. The shuttle service will operate approximately every 10 minutes until 11:15 a.m.
  • The Kinsmen Club of Oakville will collect non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army. They encourage everyone to bring at least one non-perishable food item to the Parade. Cash donations will also be accepted.
  • The Oakville Professional Fire Fighters firmly believe that every child deserves at least one special gift and so once again this year a crew will be on hand to accept new, unwrapped toys from Parade goers. Bring along your unwrapped gift with you on Parade Day. We remind those bringing gifts to not forget children over the age of 12.
  • The Fun Group of Families and Friends of Falgarwood are celebrating their 16th year of selling noses for charity at the Parade. Dressed as clowns, this group sells their famous “red noses” on Parade Day for $2, with all proceeds this year supporting Wellspring-Halton. Make sure when purchasing your nose, you get it from these clowns as they are the only group sanctioned by the Parade for red nose sales. They are easily identified by their red sweatshirts or red aprons.

NOTE: The Kinsmen Club of Oakville, the Oakville Professional Fire Fighters & the Fun Group of Families and Friends of Falgarwood are the ONLY groups authorized to accept your donations at the Parade. Sadly, other groups will sometimes take advantage of the generosity of the Parade crowd by soliciting donations for “sick children” or other non-authorized groups. Please support only those charities that have been approved by the Town of Oakville and the Oakville Santa Claus Parade.
