Election Q&A with Halton riding candidate Lisa Raitt

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Lisa Raitt is the Conservative candidate in the Halton riding in the Federal Election being held on May 2, 2011.

Oakville.com: What are the platform issues that you are addressing?

Lisa Raitt: In North Oakville and the rest of Halton, we’ve discussed a lot of issues in our platform since the election campaign began – from protecting universal health care, to helping new Canadians succeed in the professions they’ve been trained for, to keeping Halton one of the safest communities in Canada.

But at people’s doors and in their homes, I’ve heard one thing consistently – literally thousands of times:

People are saying that Halton and Canada are definitely moving in the right direction. They want that to continue, and that’s why we’ve been seeing such a positive response to our Conservative platform.

Conservative candidate Lisa Raitt is running for re-election on May 2nd as Member of Parliament representing Halton. She was first elected in 2008, and was the Minister of Labour in the Cabinet of Canada.

“The conservative way of life is that we save, and we pay less taxes so we can look after our families,” Raitt said.

Raitt believes that Stephen Harper is the best Prime Minister for the country, especially right now. “Look to our neighbours to the south,” she said. “We are not out of the economic recession. We’re doing well, but it’s still shaky. We need to get this election over with as quickly as possible, and go back to governing the country in a steady way.”
