On Friday November 4th, 2011, do something nice for someone! Oakville’s inaugural day of kindness, “Random Acts of Kindness Day” is being celebrated. This special day has been organized by the Oakville Community Foundation and the Oakville community is invited to participate.
It is a day to celebrate the small gestures in life in a random way, like opening a door for someone, buying a coffee for the patron behind you, calling someone that is alone, thanking the local crossing guard or putting money in a stranger’s parking meter . In other words, “Pay It Forward”.
Special “Random Acts of Kindness Day” cards have been printed to help celebrate this event and are available at any Branch of the Bank of Montreal, the Town of Oakville Recreation Centres, the Town Hall, Oakville Place Shopping Centre, Sheridan Institute, McDonalds, e-Spot, Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, Oakville Downtown BIA office, Whole Foods, Studio Ph Hair Design and at many other locations. The cards read “You have been touched by a Random Act Of Kindness!” Return the favour and perform a Random Act Of Kindness for a fellow citizen TODAY ! Pass this card on and pay it forward.” This is to be a community building event and the rewards received with every small gesture will pay big dividends.
For over 17 years, the Oakville Community Foundation has played a leading role in convening people, ideas and resources to improve the quality of life in Oakville, inspiring a culture of caring and building a fundamental framework for a successful community. In addition, despite decreasing government funding, rising costs and a growing demand for services, Oakville’s non-profit and charitable agencies are making great strides to meet increasing financial demands to ensure that organizations helping the less fortunate members of the Oakville community are able to continue their fine work.
November marks the beginning of the Christmas season with the lighting of Oakville’s amazing Christmas trees, both in Georges Square and in Kerr Village and the exciting arrival of Santa Claus.
The Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign will begin on November 18th. Volunteers are required. It is a great opportunity for group participation and generous support of individuals to ensure that this campaign reaches their goal of $150,000 this Christmas. Give generously to this worthy cause. It is a great way to “Pay It Forward” with a “Random Act of Kindness” this Christmas season.
The “Random Act of Kindness” celebration will begin at 10am on Friday November 4th in the Centre Court at Oakville Place Shopping Mall. Celebrate Oakville with the Oakville Community Foundation.
