Oakville Firefighters and Mayor Burton help raise $16,000 for Haiti

On Saturday January 23, 2010 the Oakville Professional Firefighters Association held a fill-the-boot campaign. More than 50 Firefighters were stationed at shopping locations throughout Oakville with their boots in hand asking residents to consider a donation to the Mayor’s Haiti Relief Fund.

“The devastation in Haiti is extensive and our community wants to offer support to those in need,” said Oakville Mayor Rob Burton.

Firefighters were at the following locations collecting cash donations until their boots were full:

  • Real Canadian Superstore, 201 Oak Park Boulevard
  • Fortino’s, 173 Lakeshore Road West
  • Sobeys, 511 Maple Grove Drive
  • Wal-Mart, 234 Hays Boulevard
  • Longos, 338 Dundas Street West

Outpouring of generosity

Oakville residents opened their wallets and helped raise more than $16,000 for the Mayor’s Haiti Relief Fund.

“I am really pleased with the way Oakville has responded to the efforts of the Oakville Firefighters to help fill up the Mayor’s Haiti Relief Fund. All over the country there is an outpouring of generosity.”
- Mayor Rob Burton

Still time to donate

Mayor Burton has created the Oakville Mayor’s Haiti Relief Fund to give Oakville residents another easy way of making donations to help the humanitarian aid efforts in the devastated nation. Donations can be made at any of Oakville’s seven fire stations or at any Oakville TD Canada Trust branch. All proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders and Unicef Canada.
