Empty Bowls, an annual fundraising event for Home Suite Hope, “Souper Bowl VI” was celebrated at St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School, this year’s venue sponsor. Home Suite Hope is a local charity that provides living accommodation and support for families in Halton; “Local Solutions to Local Homelessness”.

Imagine the delight from the moment you walk through the doors of St. Mildreds’s-Lightbourn School! There are well over 600 of your friends, delighted to be supporting this great cause, are there to greet you as you enter a gym full of hand-painted, artisanally – crafted pottery bowls and mugs – every shape and colour that one could think of. One bowl always stands out and this becomes your bowl for the day as you then have the opportunity to experience the outstanding gourmet soups created by 16 of Oakville’s best local restaurants and caterers; Canada’s biggest soup kitchen!

St Mildred’s-Lightbourn School generously funded two delightful aprons that were sold at Empty Bowls with all proceeds going to support Home Suite Hope’s work in the community, giving renewed hope to single parent families facing the devastation of homelessness.

As a special treat this year at “Souper Bowl VI”, attendees were serenaded by members of one of HSH’s community partners, the Oakville Chamber Ensemble. They were there to serenade the guests with some Advent and Christmas music to help set the mood for the forthcoming holiday season. Children from the Suzuki School of Music were also playing many varied instruments; a delight to listen to.

Home Suite Hope Shared Living Corp. is located at 200 North Service Road #424, Unit 1 in Oakville. HSH fills a much needed gap by providing transitional, longer term housing to a growing population in the Halton Region. The average stay is up to 24 months, giving low income, single parent families the time necessary to stabilize their lives. More information can be found on their web-site: www.homesuitehope.org
