The Oakville Chamber of Commerce’s celebration of BDC’s Small Business Week was a week of high energy activities. “Aim High! Invest in Your Future” was the theme of this year’s event. Small Business Week is an opportunity to recognize Canadian entrepreneurship and the small businesses which help to sustain our economy.

Beginning with the kick-off breakfast and Mac Voisin’s incredible story of his journey to success as the co-founder of M & M Meat Shops, to seminars with informative speakers, the week peaked with the annual business after hours and tradeshow.

Mac Voisin, cofounder of M& M Meat Shops, was a highlight of the week as he spun his tale of success and his methods of converting failures into successes. He emphasized his lessons learned and the value of understanding your customers. He stressed his success was based on quality products, superlative customer service and the ability to achieve peak performance with every team member.

He always gave back generously to his community. Today there are 456 M&M Meat Shops stores across Canada, all receiving the highest awards in the food and franchise industry. For the past five years M&M Meat Shops has been named one of Canada’s 50 best managed companies and has raised millions of dollars each year for various charities across Canada.

Seminars followed throughout the week. Experienced entrepreneurs shared their expertise, including Steve Howse, Audie McCarthy and Jonathan Burns. Each seminar was designed to answer many pressing entrepreneurial questions and issues such as:

How do I increase sales?
Is the investment of time and resources in social media worth it and how do I best proceed?
What is the most effective way to network?

Rounding out a week of energetic participation, the chamber’s monthly Business After Hours was combined with their annual tradeshow at Le Dome Banquet Hall. Booths were “Sold Out” and over 300 members and future members came to network with local business leaders, to enjoy the catering and refreshments and to learn, first hand, what our local businesses have to offer.

The Oakville Chamber is the voice of the Oakville business community. They provide member benefits including: advocacy, corporate benefits, networking opportunities, business development and educational forums.
