BellyUp students benefit from the fact that Joharah is a well trained and experienced Egyptian dance artist and performer who is constantly learning, growing and further educating herself. Joharah’s classes are always fresh, exciting and she keeps her students continually inspired, wanting to come back for more. “A Better You Through Bellydance”

Bellydance is an ancient art that today serves as a means of strengthening muscles and bones while finding total escape as the dancers lose themselves in the music and movements, if only for an hour each week. It connects on a very deep level while exercising the body with shimmies, figure eights, undulations and complex footwork. It improves digestion, muscle definition, posture, blood circulation and lowers blood pressure.
When Joharah started to Bellydance she was overwhelmed by the beauty of motion and opportunity for self-expression. “My weekly belly dancing classes were my escape into another world” says Joharah. Smitten by Bellydance, she sought out a variety of the top Egyptian dance teachers to study with and there was no turning back. What she saw was the true culture behind the dance form which many students often don’t see. This is a style of dance that Middle Eastern women share when the men aren’t around. They close the door, move the furniture, turn up the volume and dance together and just have a great time. Joharah thought there’s no reason why Western women should not have a place to experience the same type of camaraderie, and that was when BellyUp, the studio, was born!

BellyUp Bellydance Studio of Oakville is proud to be celebrating its seventh year of business as well as a long list of accomplishments in the Middle Eastern dance community. Owner and Master Instructor Joharah began her Egyptian dance training many years ago and she continues to train and educate herself to this day about an art form that she calls “A lifetime journey and calling”. “I have studied with virtually every major Egyptian dance superstar available and I host many of them to teach at my Oakville studio and I am still learning and evolving as a dancer.” says Joharah. Today Joharah is a well-respected and highly sought after instructor, performer and choreographer and is responsible for helping to elevate the standards of technique that is bringing the art of Bellydance to new and exciting heights.
