A groundbreaking ceremony took place at 430 Wyecroft Road on Thursday, February 11, 2010 for the new Oakville Transit facility.

The construction of the new transit facility was the Town’s top priority for new infrastructure funding. The new building is essential to house the additional buses and maintenance facilities required for the town to achieve its goal of creating a cross-town local transit service and meet the increased demands of the
community. The current garage is already over 100 per cent capacity.

Members of Town Council, Town staff, MP Terence Young, MPP Kevin Flynn, Mayor Rob Burton, PCL Construction and design firm Giffels/IBI Group were on hand for the ceremony.

The Town of Oakville received $30 million in infrastructure stimulus funds – equally provided by the governments of Canada and Ontario — to build a new $45 million dollar transit facility. The remaining $15 million will be funded by the Town of Oakville through its capital budget.

The new facility is expected to be completed by March 31, 2011.
