The Schneiders NASCAR Race Team and driver, Dave Connelly, will visit St. Marguerite D’Youville Catholic Elementary School Thursday, October 20, 2011 for a special “Show and Tell” – the coolest of the year! Dave Connelly and his 500-hp NASCAR stock car will be at the school from 1:00 to 2:30pm and then at the host Metro Grocery Store, located at Upper Oakville Shopping Centre from 3:00 to 7:00pm.

Dave will be there to meet you, to show his car and to enjoy the giant BBQ Fundraiser at Metro. You are all invited!

The Fuel for Kids is a fundraiser program run throughout Ontario by Dave Connelly, his team and their host, Metro, with all proceeds raised going to St. Marguerite D’Youville Catholic Elementary School. The school has been adopted, chosen as their partner and the benefactor for this year. The NASCAR team has been doing this unique fundraising tour for six years and, single-handedly, raised over $130,000 for elementary schools.

“I love this program,” Dave Connelly says. “We make a difference, whether the school is raising money for smart boards, basketballs, carpets, field trips, busing, or whatever they need. I know when we leave, we’ve helped.”

This unusual and beneficial Fundraising event began because it was in Dave’s contract that he visit many Metro stores each year. After doing many fundraisers for big charities that left him wondering how he had helped at all, he sat back and asked himself how he could make the most impact and how he could really make a difference. That’s when the idea for Fuel for Kids was born. Six years later, he and his team, and Metro, have raised over $130,000, and every nickel has gone to an elementary school for whatever their needs happened to be.

He continues because he meets so many interesting people every day. He remembers the Moms, Dads and staff who are taking time out of their busy schedules to support their schools or volunteer their time. They are pretty dynamic people and he has a chance to hear their interesting stories of what they are doing. They are sometimes very entertaining as well – and Dave Connelly likes to have fun!

Dave Connelly wants kids to know that “You can be anything when you grow up and not to let anyone ever tell you that you cannot do something. Dreams are what make life worth living.” His pearls of wisdom – “Life goes by so fast and it’s way too short – ask yourself if you are happy with what you do or where you are in life…. if you are not, then change it.”

When Dave races, speed is irrelevant because everyone is basically going the same speed. This is not his reason for racing.”It’s driving flat as hard as you possibly can with a car 2 inches beside you, lap after lap after lap…. that is absolutely the funnest part.” An amazing role model for our children, we are lucky that Dave Connelly and his team are “driving flat and hard” with our children in mind.

Thursday, October 20, 2011, 3-7pm, support Dave and his dream by visiting Metro, your community, family oriented, grocery store, at the Upper Oakville Shopping Centre for the giant BBQ Fundraiser, a visit with Dave, the Nascar Team, the great people at Metro and a hands-on view of the 500-hp NASCAR stock car. This is all in support of this year’s fundraising drive for St. Marguerite D’Youville Catholic Elementary School.
