The Lincoln MKX

The Lincoln MKX

Living in Oakville for the past twenty years, I have always looked at the Oakville Ford Assembly plant as a source of pride for our town. With such a great local presence and employer of many of our citizens, I decided to discover more about the vehicles Ford is making right here in Oakville.

I was surprised to find out that Ford locally produces the Lincoln MKX, a luxury crossover that not only offers all of the latest in automobile technology, but serious performance with a 305 horsepower engine and six-speed automatic transmission. Featuring a 3.7L twin independent Variable Cam Timing V6, and Intelligent All-Wheel Drive the Lincoln MKX offers a smooth yet powerful ride.  I was amazed at how quiet it ran given the power under the hood.

The interior is comfortable and luxurious. With standard leather seats featuring 10-way power adjustment and power lumbar support, as well as Lincoln’s signature Tuxedo stripe. The front seats have not only heating, but cooling features, a plus in the hot summer, and the driver’s seat has memory for two different driver preferences. A heated steering wheel and dual climate controls ensures your total comfort, and a panoramic vista sunroof lets in plenty of light.

The new technology integration is amazing.  Standard on the Lincoln MKX, the SYNC feature allows you to control your music and phone by using your voice. I was impressed at how simple it was to sync my cell phone to the car and make calls safely with the built-in Bluetooth, and easily download all of my contacts without even referring to the manual. You can hook up your iPod or MP3 player with the handy USB port and have all of your favourite music at your fingertips, and enjoy it all on the available THXII Certified Audio System with an incredible fourteen strategically aimed speakers for optimum sound. MyLincoln Touch gives you voice control over audio, navigation and climate preferences. With an intuitive eight inch touch screen on the centre console, all of your controls are easily accessible, and you can customize the display to show what you want. You can also use the USB or SD card slot to view photos from your camera or hook up a laptop or DVD player with the video jacks. The Lincoln MKX is also compatible with SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

The BLIS with Cross Traffic Alert is another innovative safety feature available on the Lincoln MKX. BLIS stands for Blind Spot Information System, and detects when another vehicle is entering your blind spot, extremely helpful for assessing passing capabilities. An indicator light illuminates on either of the outside mirrors showing which side another vehicle is approaching from. The cross traffic alert uses the blind spot monitoring sensors to visually and audibly let you know of any vehicles or obstacles that may be behind you while in reverse. A rear view camera is activated when the vehicle is in reverse and is displayed on the screen, with coloured guides that allow you to safely judge the distance of objects that may be behind you. The reverse sensing system also has audio alerts, increasing your awareness of any impending obstacles. This would have certainly come in handy for me personally, having previously destroyed a couple of recycling bins by backing into them.

Lincoln has always been synonymous with luxury, and the MKX certainly rivals any of the comparable vehicles in its class, domestic or imported. The combination of sumptuous interior, incredible technology as well as exceptional power combined with fuel efficiency is proof that you can have it all. And best of all? It’s built right here in Oakville. For more information on the Lincoln MKX, including pricing and where to find your nearest dealer, visit www.lincolncanada.com.
