Roger and Teresa Cutting the Cake at the Cucci Ristorante Luncheon
Councillor Roger Lapworth and Teresa Stewart Lapworth were married in Bronte Village by the Lake in the beautiful, intimate surroundings of Cucci Ristorante. An interesting fact: Roger is the first sitting Oakville Town Councillor to be married while in office! Collectively they have seven children, two grandchildren and the promise of a happy fulfilling life together. According to Teresa, “One of the greatest things about marrying Roger – is Roger, of course, but also that I get to be a grandmother. Yeah!”
Roger and Teresa met in 1998, shortly after Roger moved to Oakville, when he was preparing the Income Tax Return for Teresa’s families and for her business. Neither knew the outcome of their story together at that time as Teresa traveled extensively. They lost touch for a few years and re-united on Facebook. (You have to love Facebook – even if you want no part of it!)Teresa made a trip to Oakville to visit a girlfriend, had coffee with Roger- to discuss taxes, of course, and they both realized that Roger was not “just an accountant” and that Teresa was “not just a client” but rather that each of them wanted to be an important part of the other’s future.

Sixteen guests were honoured to be present at this special occasion, including all of their children and one of their two grandchildren. Mayor Rob Burton and his wife Wendy and former Mayor Harry Barrett and his friend Trish Montague were on hand to give the radiant and beautiful bride, Teresa Stewart, to Roger and to extend their best wishes for their future together. Pam Ford, a special friend, and I were delighted to be attending the festivities also. Married by Justice of the Peace, Carol Provost, this union of two very special people was solidified. Lunch, as elegant and delicious as Cucci Ristorante is famous for, was a “fitting end to a new beginning”.

Teresa is not just beautiful, but the owner of her own Consulting Business specializing in IT Management Consulting for large organizations, Non-Profit and Government and in sectors such as Retail, Aviation, Government, Non-Profit, Education and Insurance. Some of her clients include: BC Govenment, Scotia, TD, Citigroup, Metlife, Travelers, Prudential, Kraft Foods, Community Information Toronto.
She is most proud of the delivery of the 211 community information website for Toronto; a model that was to be used across Canada. Returning to Oakville in 2009, Teresa is an honourary member of the Willow Foundation, member of the Terry Fox Committee, the “Stars Among Us” Arts Awards Committee and supporter for the Oakville Milton Humane Society. Teresa says, “Oakville was always my favourite place to live and I always hoped that I would return to live here”. Dreams do come true!
Roger Lapworth is an outstanding Councillor for the largest riding in Oakville, Ward 4. Elected for a second term, he tirelessly works to make a difference in Oakville, and does! Roger currently owns his own tax consulting business in Bronte, Oakville. He sits on many Boards, (not sure when he has time to see Teresa!) including the Bronte Village Business Improvement Association (the Bronte Village BIA).
Where was Roger on Canada Day? With Teresa at his side, supporting his every passion, Roger was doing what he loves to do – being the Audio Engineer for the Cogeco Community Stage for the Canada Day celebrations. Roger is the founder of the Retro Rock Lounge, a non-profit organization that supports amateur musicians within the Arts community. Roger wants to make community musicians sound their best! Many of us know Roger for the work he does as an audio engineer as he donates his time, experience and equipment at many, many fundraising events.
We wish Roger and Teresa every success in their marriage. A thank you note came from them, with the following quote: “No love, no friendship can ever cross the path of our destiny without leaving some mark on it forever.” Marriage was Roger & Teresa’s destiny. May it be forever!
