Kathryn Doran had a slow start to her competitive gymnastics season but finished off in style.
Having a rather uncharacteristic first qualifier, an average second and a non-existent third due to illness, Kathryn went into the Ontario Cup competition held in Ottawa at the end of March, just hoping to finish in the Top 8. With her strongest performance to date she won the beam and finished a very respectable 4th overall.
Heading into Provincial Championships she had aspirations of once again finishing in the top for and qualifying for the Eastern Canadian Championships. In the back of her mind she felt she had it in her to be the Champion but concentrated on just doing her best. After hitting all four of her routines cleanly she emerged as the Level 8 age 10/11 Provincial Champion!
With the win she got the opportunity to represent Ontario at the Eastern Canadian Championships in Mississauga where she again produced clean, solid routines, not only claiming the Floor title but finishing second over all and helping team Ontario win the Gold medal in the team competition!!
Kathryn is the strong silent type in the gym. Being one of the youngsters on the Oakville Gymnastics Club’s elite women’s team she quietly works along side the top girls in Canada. Watching and learning, Kathryn is showing the potential to step up and join the senior ranks in the near future by laying down smooth, consistent and stylish routines. Her form is impeccable, her dance elements are artistic and her lines are classic gymnastics.
Kathryn is definitely an Oakville athlete to watch in the years ahead.
