Work Out in the Wellness Centre

The New Year is the perfect time to start creating a healthier life. While many people achieve success, there are others who find it hard to fit any lifestyle changes into their schedule. Consider the YMCA, where you and your family can find all the tools and resources needed to get healthier together in one location.

Get active together!

The Y makes it easy to get active together as a family with programs for all ages under one roof. With a membership, many programs are included, like one swim lesson per week for your kids or fitness classes for you. While your kids are in one program, you can work out in the wellness centre, enjoy the open gym, take a Yoga Fitness class and much more. The Y also has registered and free community programs and much more! From January 24-31, visit the open house at the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, take a tour and give the Y a try.

Get motivated!
If you’re searching for other ways to help you get motivated, check out one of the new Healthy Living Workshops. This series of FREE workshops are presented with community partners and industry experts. February’s workshop, Healthy Heart, with speaker Brenda Echlin of Halton Healthcare, takes place on Thursday, February 6 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Learn more about the benefits of exercise for optimum heart health, how to manage diabetes and much more. All workshops are open to the public. Registration is not required.

Building a healthier community
Many people think of the YMCA as a gym or a place to take swim lessons, but the Y is actually much more. As a charity, they are committed to strengthening community with programs that meet the unique needs of children, teens and adults across Oakville. Programs like child care (they have 39 locations!), a variety of day and overnight camps for holidays, P.A. Days and summer, plus other community initiatives delivered in a number of neighbourhoods across Oakville.

As a charity, the YMCA of Oakville believes everyone should have the same opportunity to live healthier lives. That’s why they offer financial assistance to subsidize the costs to participate in YMCA programs like child care, camp and health and fitness. By helping those in need in our community, everyone will have the same opportunity to reach their full potential.
