Just because it is cold and snowy outside does not mean you have to stay stuck indoors all winter. Halton Region still offers plenty of activities to see and do anytime of the year.
Obviously, this is the best time to hit the slopes. Glen Eden has a 45-acre ski resort with 12 trails and a snow-tubing park. They offer private or group lessons for skiing and snowboarding. Or, if cross-country skiing is more your speed, you can visit one of the many provincial parks in the area to explore the trails. Bronte Creek Provincial Park has 5 kilometers of trails that loop throughout the park and are perfect for navigating on cross-country skis or snowshoes.
If outdoor winter sports are not for you, the Royal Botanical Gardens, which is the largest botanical garden in Canada, is open even during the winter. With 2,422 acres of land and 37 kilometers of trails, there is plenty to see and do. Even when it is cold outside, you can visit the RBG Centre and tour the indoor gardens and exploration areas there.
Halton Region is also home to many parks. Crawford Lake, Mountsberg, Rattlesnake Point, Mount Nemo, Robert Edmondson, Hilton Falls and Kelso are just a few of the natural environments available to explore. There are numerous hiking trials in all the parks that staff work to keep open year round. As well, the Mountsberg Raptor Centre has over 24 different birds of prey available for an entertaining and educational encounter.
If it gets really cold outside, you can head indoors to the Halton Region Museum. There are 6 historic buildings on the site, and over 35,000 artifacts showcasing the history of the area. You can learn about the first settlers of Halton, and discover the fascinating people who had a hand in creating the community.
Finally, if all that was not enough, the Burlington Art Centre offers a little of everything for everyone. There are plenty of exhibits to take in. There are also a variety of art classes for children and adults. You can purchase ceramics, jewelry, paintings, glassware and more from the Art Etc Gallery Shop.
Do not stay cooped up inside all winter long. There is so much to see, do and explore around us no matter what season it is.
