Richard Douglas, Founder of the website Oakville.com, has been nominated Entrepreneur of the Year for the prestigious 2011 Oakville Awards for Business Excellence.

Richard’s innovative Oakville’s City Guide excites the imagination and exudes excellence as a reference tool for the residents of Oakville. Oakville.com offers information concerning every aspect of life in Oakville!

An approved news supplier for Google, articles placed on Oakville.com go immediately into their news system, and can be found by people around the world. The latest Articles instantly show up on the front page of the Oakville.com website, appear in the top 10 results on Google/Yahoo/Bing and include links to each business’ website with directions as to how to find the businesses and their information, complete with pictures, all archived! Great exposure for the Town of Oakville and local businesses!

Making a difference in the community

An outstanding example of the success of Richard’s model was experienced during the recent October 2010 Municipal Election. He had an idea that if Oakville residents were given enough information about the candidates and the issues, they would be more inclined to vote. The Oakville.com team embarked on a journey to educate Oakville residents on election issues and increase Voter turnout! With 60,000 readers each month, Richard believed he had an audience – and he did!

Richard’s team profiled and published each Candidate, explained the issues and views and encouraged each person to vote. In October 2010, 30,000 people viewed the election content and voter turnout increased by 5%! Read more about the amazing results here.

Giving back

A graduate of Sheridan College, Richard believes in using local talent to provide up-to-date and relevant information to Oakville residents. Four reporters, all from Sheridan College in Oakville, cover many of the events. The remainder, including myself, are people who work and/or live in the Oakville community. Richard also believes that an Oakville City Guide is an important tool for Oakville. If you need a plumber, want to see what events are interesting to you, need to know garbage collection dates, the weather forecast, find movie times or want to discover a new restaurant, it is all at your fingertips.

Interesting and current, with about 20,000 pages of content and about 100 pages of fresh content every week, it is little wonder that Oakville’s internet users bookmark Oakville.com and use this City Guide to discover interesting information about Oakville’s people and events; information that increases exposure and really benefits the Oakville community. Most of this great coverage is free, including the profiles of interesting “Oakvillians”.

Richard and the Oakville.com team are strong supporters of the community. In addition to hiring their reporters from Sheridan, Oakville.com also created and displays advertising – at no cost – on the website to support the following charities: United Way, Cancer Society, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Canadian Red Cross, Oakville Hospital Foundation and several other local groups.

It is little wonder that Richard Douglas has been nominated Entrepreneur of the Year! Be sure to visit www.oakville.com soon and discover this powerful Oakville city guide!
