Food trucks are taking over Mississauga’s Celebration Square on Saturday, October 27th. If you haven’t visited this new breed of culinary genius, this is your chance to sample some of the best and most innovative foods around.
Food trucks are all the rage in many major cities across North America, as witnessed on the Food Network’s hit show Eat St., which explores the amazing people behind the trucks and shows the public that food trucks aren’t just the same old hot dogs or sausages that gave them the ‘street meat’ moniker, but a foodie’s dream of international flavours from incredibly talented chefs that are enough to make most fancy restaurants jealous.
At least ten food trucks from around southern Ontario will be participating in the event. With menus ranging from hearty soups to decadent desserts, and some of the best pizza you have ever tasted, to gourmet sandwiches, as well as mouth-watering barbeque and Italian food. At press time, the trucks scheduled to appear include Beaver Tails Toronto, Bonfire Catering, Cupcake Diner, Fidel Gastro’s, Gourmet Gringos, Hank Daddy’s BBQ, Rome’n Chariot, The Feisty Jack, and Urban Smoke Fusion BBQ.* With all of these amazing choices, there will be something to please everyone.
Fidel Gastro’s Matt Basile is staging his own food revolution with his trademark ‘extremo’ recipes, featuring sandwiches and ‘Pad Thai Fries’. Rome’n Chariot brings Italian comfort food including meatball sliders and handmade pasta that will have you begging for more. The Feisty Jack offers a modern twist on classic British fare, with their ‘Smash Smash, Bang Bang’ version of bangers and mash.
The area’s first gourmet Latin food truck, Gourmet Gringos, serves up burritos, tacos, and empanadas, as well as a variety of homemade salsas. Bonfire Catering’s mobile wood fired pizza oven turns out a crust that will transform your idea of fast food, including a prosciutto and arugula topped pie as well as a bacon jam version.
Barbeque enthusiasts will love Urban Smoke Fusion and their traditional Memphis-style pulled pork and classic Texas brisket right from their mobile smoker, while Hank Daddy’s Barbeque cooks up tender smoked ribs, chicken and more. And be sure to finish off your day with some gourmet cupcakes from the fabulous pink Cupcake Diner or a hot, fresh beaver tail from Beaver Tails Toronto.
The entire family can enjoy not only the food trucks, but have fun with a visit to the Imagination Park in Celebration Square, where kids can create their own magical world with giant movable blocks, or learn to draw super heroes on the giant Paper Road , and don’t forget to pop into the Mississauga Central Library for their Book Fest!
The food trucks will be at Mississauga Celebration Square from 11am until 5pm. Celebration Square is located at 300 City Centre Drive right near Mississauga City Hall and Square One Shopping Centre.
