Sonny Jelinek, Richard Messer, Geoff Shore, Theresa Castonguay, Jules Graham-Hood (L-R) were on hand for the cheque presentation for the 2nd Annual Environmental Awareness Day.

Representatives from Tim Hortons, the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, Kerr Village BIA and M&M Meats presented a cheque to Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton – an organization which fosters mentorship of Halton’s youth.

“The Chamber brings people and ideas together with a mission to foster a healthy and sustainable economic environment in Oakville. We know that economic and environmental sustainability must go hand in hand – which is why it is so rewarding to see the Kerr Village BIA, our community partners, local businesses, local politicians and citizens team up to take care of our community.” – Sonny Jelinek, Chair of the Oakville Chamber of Commerce

The 2nd Annual Environmental Awareness Day was held at Tim Hortons, 111 Cross Avenue in Oakville on July 24, 2010. The event included recycling of old computer equipment, green exhibits by local vendors and a community clean up. Entertainment was provided by DJ Central and the Cheerleaders from Toronto Argonauts and Tiger-Cats and a free bbq was sponsored by the M&M Meat Shops location at 2525 Prince Michael Drive in Oakville.

“We were delighted with the success of the event,” stated local Tim Hortons franchisee, Geoff Shore.

Volunteers from the community cleaned up the area around the Tim Hortons at 111 Cross Avenue. A team of volunteers led by Colin Woodcock also cleaned up along the banks of the Sixteen-Mile creek. Participants were able to drop off electronic items for recycling courtesy of Reboot Canada. Through the hard work and generous donations of the participants, $1000 was raised for Big Brothers Big Sisters Halton.
