Do you have unwanted electronics collecting dust or taking up space in your home or workplace? Upper Oakville Shopping Centre, in partnership with Greentec, invites you to safely and responsibly dispose of them for free on Friday September 16th, Saturday September 17th, and Sunday September 18th at Upper Oakville Shopping Centre in the parking lot near Swiss Chalet.
Each year Ontarians generate more than 100,000 tonnes of electronic waste. With the majority of municipalities charging a disposal fee for each piece of electronic equipment properly disposed of, only 27% is properly disposed of. The remaining electronic waste is dumped in Ontario, US or international landfill sites, according to the Ontario Electronic Stewardship (OES).
Members of the community and local businesses can drop-off their unwanted electronic for FREE recycling between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm at Upper Oakville Shopping Centre. Staff will be available to assist in the unloading of electronics from vehicles. Collected items are shipped directly to Greentec’s Cambridge facility for processing in accordance with OES, ISO and MOE regulations.
This is the second e-waste event Upper Oakville Shopping Centre has held in partnership with electronics recycler Greentec. The first event was held back in June of this year and was considered a huge success. 54,000 pounds of electronic waste was collected which included old electronics, television sets, computers, printers and ink cartridges.
Greentec first started recycling electronic waste in 1995, with their headquarters in Cambridge and another location in Barrie. Greentec’s advanced security processes ensure all information stored on devices is permanently and anonymously destroyed before disposal or refurbishment.
Acceptable electronics for free recycling include cell phones, print cartridges, digital cameras, iPods/MP3 players, laptop/desktop computers, accessories, televisions, monitors, speakers and more.
