Local fire departments are marking their Fire Prevention Week, which runs October 7-13, 2012. This year’s theme is “Have 2 Ways Out!” and it focuses on the importance of having a second escape route as part of fire safety planning.

Having working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, are of course, key to your family’s escape planning.

Fire Prevention Week materials outline that families who create and practice an escape plan together, with two ways out of every room if possible, have a better chance of escaping during a real fire emergency.
