The Oakville Chamber of Commerce hosted a wonderful lunch today which included a speech from Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.
McGuinty announced during his speech that the government of Ontario is taking some important initiatives to assist businesses, small and large, in Ontario. He called it the Open for Business strategy.
Some of the initiatives announced were the following:
1. The amount of government regulation for businesses in Ontario will be reduced by 25%. The streamlined regulations will allow businesses to focus more on building their businesses and creating jobs.
2. Instead of having to call separate 800 numbers to contact various government departments, the government will streamline its telephone system so that businesses call one 800 number, no matter which department they need to contact.
3. Businesses will use a single “Business Number” when dealing with government departments and ministries, instead of using different numbers to identify the business to different departments.
McGuinty also highlighted that the government is encouraging more “green” projects which it expects will lead to energy savings and job creation for Ontarians. The Premier gave an example of the government working with farmers in a local community to build a power generator which will convert animal manure into enough energy to power 400 local homes.
