The Fifth Annual Ladies Out Laughing Comedy Night 2012 was a night “For Ladies Only”! Laughter is the best medicine and that was certainly true at the tremendously successful evening that attracted over 500 women. This year’s sold out show raised over $40,000 for the Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers, The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer and the Tour for Kids, which supports children with cancer and their families. Just as important, however, was the breadth of awareness raised about the effects of cancer on women and children.
The community’s enthusiasm for Ladies Out Laughing is coupled with the support of the many businesses, individuals and volunteers who collectively make this fundraising evening such a success. Women’s chuckles have raised over $115,000 since Ladies Out Laughing began in 2008.
Oakville’s Gillian Forrest opened the show dressed as a warrior princess, to symbolize her fight against cancer. “The war against cancer has called millions of warriors to the front lines. Many fight their battle and resume their lives, although never the same. For others, it is overwhelming and we lose those amazing people to this horrible disease” said Gillian.

LOL Presenting Sponsor KPMG Team
Karen Adams, Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, explained how the funds raised would be used and outlined PMH’s bold $1 billion fundraising goal over the next 5 years for personalized cancer medicine. Marci Shea-Perry, Executive Director of Camp Trillium, related the sense of joy and normality that the camp experience brings to children battling cancer and their families.
There was a new twist this year with the inclusion of Trevor Boris, the first ever male comedian! He was quick witted, fast paced and delightful. Trevor was joined by Debra DiGiovanni, an award winning comedian who has entertained the ladies at each event since 2008. Delicious desserts and savoury delights were served and guests left with a fabulous goodie bag as well as coupons and gift certificates from many local businesses.
The Ladies Out Laughing Team members will be participating in the 2012 Shoppers Drug Mart Weekend to End Women’s Cancers and the Ride to Conquer Cancer, both of which benefit the Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret Hospital, as well as the Tour for Kids, which raises funds for the Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation, supporting children, adolescents, and their families who are facing a cancer diagnosis. All funds raised go directly to these charities.
There has never been a better reason to laugh out loud as the stories from delightful cancer survivors relayed a message of hope and another chance to live the life they choose! Ladies Out Laughing has become an eagerly anticipated event each year. As long as these ladies can host this event, walk and cycle, their quest to “Conquer Cancer in their Lifetime” will continue!
