Are You Sabotaging Your Weight Loss?

Thursday, April 24th, 2014

Most of us believe that in order to lose weight we have to do extreme calorie restriction along with intense exercise.  While it is true that there needs to be a caloric deficit along with physical activity to achieve weight loss, ultimately it comes down to your metabolism.  A revved up metabolism will yield more weight loss than a sluggish metabolism.   We are not all created equal so when it comes to calories in and calories out some of us can get away with eating more than others and still lose weight.  This will depend on a variety of things like; age, weight, sex, muscle mass, thyroid, hormones, and most importantly genetics.

10 Ways to Get Your Home Spring Ready

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2014

Spring is finally here! Now is the time to start getting things around your home cleaned up and ready for the new season. Listed below are a few ways to do just that:

1. Start at the Top

Begin by cleaning cobwebs and dust from the corners, ceiling and ceiling fan of each room. While the ladder is out, pull any removable glass light fixtures down and wash them by running them through the dishwasher.

2. Go Around the Walls
Look around for any scratch or scuff marks on the walls and touch them up with matching paint. Vacuum around the baseboards. Use the vacuum attachment to go over all upholstery. Dust all shelves and knick-knacks and clean picture frames, pictures and mirrors with glass cleaner.

3. Enjoy the View
Pull down all blinds and curtains. Wash blinds in the bathtub and lay them on a towel to dry. Clean windows and ledges and run the curtains through the dryer on the low-cool setting to remove any dust. If needed, use a cool iron to press any wrinkles out before re-hanging them.

Wheying In On Protein Powders

Monday, March 31st, 2014

My clients often ask me about protein powders and if I can recommend one.  While I am not a big advocate of protein powders it is one of the most popular supplements in our society today.  These powders can come from a variety of different sources and a number of unique manufacturing processes.

I prefer to get my protein from real food as most commercial protein powders are filled with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) plus artificial sweeteners and preservatives that are highly toxic within the body.  The majority of protein powders also contain soy, egg, wheat gluten, and whey.  These ingredients are highly allergenic and promote inflammatory reactions in the body.   So here we go again, thinking that we are doing something healthy for the body which in fact we are doing the very opposite.

If you want to up your protein then my suggestion to you is to add hemp seeds into your diet.  Since Hemp seeds are a whole food they are the cleanest complete protein available on the market today.   Just 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds will give you 14 grams of protein plus they are a super source of fibre and omega-3 fatty acids helping you to keep regular, fueled, and healthy.
