Santa Claus

As kids and adults alike anxiously await the return of Santa, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade invites all community groups, schools, sports teams and businesses to enter a float in this year’s Parade taking place on Saturday, November 17th.

Every year, Oakville residents look forward to the Parade and line up to watch colourful floats, marching bands and the big arrival of Santa Claus with his eight tiny reindeer. The Parade traditionally signals the start of the Christmas season.

The Oakville Santa Claus Parade has been delighting families, residents and visitors for 64 years, and now it’s your turn to be a part of all the holiday cheer by entering a float! The theme of Oakville’s 64th annual Santa Claus Parade is ‘Once Upon a Christmas.’ Creativity and originality are key when designing your float.

The entries are coming in quickly, and they get better each year.  A few of the entries received so far include the Oakville Academy for the Arts, last year’s overall winner and best commercial float winner, promising that Christmas dreams come true, Oakville Hydro incorporating an outer space Christmas theme, Walton Church reminiscing about Christmases past and present, and Rosehaven Homes who wish to be royally home for Christmas.

The Santa Claus Parade committee urges all groups to get involved in the excitement. Whether you are a service club, charity or community organization, sports team or local business, don’t miss out on this long-standing holiday tradition.

As always, the Parade is looking for local schools to participate in the school challenge. Local schools will have to once again wrestle the title away from White Oaks Secondary School & Oakville Trafalgar Robotics team, first and second place winners of the Best School Float award last year. Think you’ve got what it takes to build a float? Then do it! All Oakville schools are invited to get involved and compete for the title of Best School Float. Schools can also compete for the overall grand prize of $500 for the group that can top the rest!

Don’t miss out on all the fun this year; enter today! Entry forms are now available online at www.oakvillesantaclausparade.ca. Those interested can also email info@oakvillesantaclausparade.ca.  The deadline for entries is the first 50 entries received or October 28th, whichever comes first.  There are only a few spots left, so don’t wait!

The 2012 Parade takes place Saturday, November 17th beginning at 9 am.  The Parade will begin at Lakeshore Road and Reynolds, go west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, north on Kerr and end at Kerr and Stewart Streets.
