Who would have guessed that a BBQ could actually make for the perfect pizza oven? It provides that nice dry heat to give your summer pizza that incredible crunch. So gas up the grills, set up the patio, and try out this recipe for the most scrumptious BBQ pizza in town.
Ingredients
1 package of dry yeast
1 cup of water
1 dash of sugar
2 teaspoons of salt
2 cloves of fresh crushed garlic
1 tablespoon of olive oil
175 ml fresh tomato sauce
3 ½ cups flower
1 heaping portion of shredded mozzarella
¼ cup roasted red peppers
¼ cup pepperoni
3 tablespoons of fresh basil
½ cup pesto
1 cup of garden fresh sliced tomatoes
1/3 cup goat cheese
Directions
1. Store bought dough will do, but for those who want that home made taste – don’t be afraid to take things into your own hands. In a bowl dissolve yeast in warm water while mixing in sugar. Keep mixing for about ten minutes and add in salt, olive oil and flour until the dough begins to form. Knead onto a floured surface until smooth for about eight minutes. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and let rise for an hour. Knead again and allow it to rise again for another hour.
2. Preheat BBQ to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease an aerated pan suitable for your barbeque with olive oil and crushed garlic. Roll out dough to desired thickness. It doesn’t need to be perfect – but keep it around a quarter inch.
3. Dress you pizza with a hearty portion of tomato sauce. Choose from a variety of different sauces from your local grocer – or try to make it from scratch. A delicious combination to try is pesto, garden fresh tomato slices, roasted red peppers and goat cheese. Or try spicy pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, crushed basil, and fresh mushrooms.
4. Lower BBQ heat to medium to prevent crust from burning. Cook for 25 minutes, let stand for five minutes. Serve and enjoy.
