Welcome to the dog days of summer. Here’s a taste of what’s going on in Oakville this August.

August 16: 12-7pm: Kicks for Change: Play soccer while raising money for the New Oakville Hospital at River Oaks Turf Field. Last year’s tournament raised $4,000 and organizers hope to raise more this year. Contact: Rhea Thakore at rheathakore@hotmail.com to find out more information including how to sign up your team.

August 19: 10am-12pm: Banking for Newcomers by Scotiabank: Scotiabank sponsors this free session on how to build credit, open an account, and start a business, and much more. Session takes place at The Centre for Education and Training at 171 Speers Rd, Suite 20.

August 21: 12:30pm- Town of Oakville Summer BBQ: Enjoy a burger at the Oakville Seniors’ Centre. Tickets for this are $4 each. Price includes a burger, salad, drink and desert. Cut-off date is August 21, 2014. The Oakville Seniors Centre is located at 263 Kerr St. Oakville Ontario.

August 26: 11:30am-12:15pm: Kids’ At the Carnival Drop-in Music Class: Sing Music Studio invites you to step right up and sing and play musical instruments. Only 10 spaces available at a cost of $25/child; the cost includes a take-home instrument. For more information contact Miss Mandi at: 416-388-8787 or email info@singmusicstudio.com. Sing Music Studio is located at 56 Lake St.

August 27: 4-6pm: Ollie Your Way to River Oaks Skateboard Park: A moveable skateboard park comes to River Oaks Skateboard Park. Only skateboards and scooters allowed. River Oaks Community Centre is located at 2400 Sixth Line, Oakville.
