Cupcakes, to me, are a little piece of heaven, and Cupid’s Gourmet Bakery definitely have some of the most heavenly ones I have ever had the pleasure of trying.
An Oakville staple for three years now, Cupid’s Gourmet Bakery not only offers a delectable variety of gourmet cupcakes that are all peanut-free, they are now also baking up an amazing new selection of sweet treats that will have you not-so-patiently awaiting your next visit.
Niki Brinton opened Cupid’s in the Upper Oakville Shopping Centre in 2010 and has enjoyed the tremendous positive reactions from customers across town and at her second location on Dundas Street at Walkers Line in Burlington as well ever since.
Her love for baking and plans to open a cupcake shop took a turn in a different yet necessary direction when she discovered that her younger child was allergic to peanuts, and Cupid’s became known for baking treats that were all completely nut free as well as completely delicious. Cupid’s offers regular and mini-sized cupcakes available in a variety of traditional flavours such as the classic Red Velvet, as well as a rotating menu of their ‘Chef’s Choice’, such as The Nutless German, which features a German chocolate cake cupcake without, of course, the nuts.
Niki knows that sometimes people may want something a little different from cupcakes; no matter how good they are, so she decided to try a few new things too. The brilliant bakers at Cupid’s love to experiment with innovative flavours and combinations, and they have come up with some delectable new treats. Using only the finest, freshest ingredients, they introduced a few seasonal pies during the holidays, including pumpkin, apple, and a cranberry apple combination that were huge hits.
The new gourmet squares feature some great twists on classic desserts, and are perfect anytime, including the Mochaccino Brownie, with a decadent chocolate brownie, mocha chips, an espresso buttercream frosting and a chocolate ganache topping to the Cranberry Coconut Blondie with coconut, white chocolate and tangy cranberries topped with orange-zested cream cheese, toasted coconut and a white chocolate drizzle.
The Dreamy Lemon Meringue pie is bursting with the sweet, tart flavour of fresh lemons and a beautiful shortbread crust, with a perfectly toasted meringue topping. The S’Mores pie is one of the best things I have ever tasted. All the marvelous flavours of the classic S’Mores treat combined together in a pie is simply genius, but what makes it truly special is that Cupid’s makes their own marshmallow for it, as well as their own graham crackers for the crumbly crust. That little extra step and that little extra heart that Cupid’s puts into the product is part of the reason everything tastes so good.
Along with the new additions to the Cupid’s menu, the bakery has also undergone some renovations, and with the help of Interior Design Consultant Kate Davidson, it looks absolutely fabulous. Be sure to check out the light fixtures above the counter that are made out of large whisks from industrial mixers. The new look and the new items available make a visit to Cupid’s a must, and as Niki says “come in and try some of the new baked goods – we’re sure you’re going to love them just as much as we do!”
